LeBrun's Nabokov Interview 1/23 7:38 PM

It just keeps getting better. Just to be clear, he hasn't played since November, and admittedly is out of shape and would need a couple of weeks to get ready. Sloppy Nabby...sloppy.

CHL Prospects Game: Nugent-Hopkins Impresses, Couturier Does not

ESPN has speculated that the Isles would pick RNH with the #1 overall. That's doubtful. It is hard to see anybody but Larsson as the first choice for the Isles. If, however, Larsson is off the board when the Isles pick, RNH might be the way to go. He will likely be a year away from being NHL-ready--although Skinner and Burmistrov are examples of less physically developed skilled players who have made the jump and made it well--but he could become the ideal setup man for JT. That combo on the top line with Kyle to create a physical presence could start to produce in a manner comparable to the B-T-G line. TSN noted that RNH jumped right in when a Team Cherry goon went after Sven Baertschi. David Musil then went after the goon.

Two Minutes with Ty

A fun if not so in-depth look at the Islanders' recent acquisition, Ty Wishart.

A-Mac behind the scenes

From the Islanders' new "Skates on a Plane" blog: The best sequence that didn’t make the broadcast was MacDonald’s reaction to a knee-to-knee hit absorbed by teammate Jack Hillen. A-Mac, who was on the bench during the play, was convinced that his teammate could have broken his leg, and expressed as much to his bench neighbors… then to the refs, then to players on the other team, and eventually, to Hillen himself. All, of course, in pretty colorful language. What did come across on the air was MacDonald’s leadership abilities. The assistant captain is the unquestioned leader of the defense on the bench, and the most vocal player on the ice. From assigning a back-checking forward to the "low" position, to coaching defensive partner Travis Hamonic through a breakout, A-Mac showed TV viewers why the coaching staff has put so much faith in him this season.

Islanders Claimed Evgeni Nabokov, so he took his puck and went home

UPDATE: TSN's sources say Nabokov won't report. UPDATE 2: As far as Garth Snow is concerned, Nabokov is an Islander. Told Katie Strang "he wants to hear back from Nabokov personally before making any more comments; has left voice mail and made tentative flight plans for him." Feel Free to Discuss what this means for either Rick DiPietro or Kevin Poulin. I think this is all about making sure you develop Kevin Poulin the right way and not throwing him to the wolves. Obviously Nathan Lawson didn't help himself even before he got hurt and we haven't heard yet how long he is out for. Of course there's the possibility that DP is hurt worse then they've been letting on. But that possibility will exist for the rest of his career.

THEORY: Ricky Voodoo

So I have this theory that if we all make voodoo dolls of Rick DiPietro and poke him where he is commonly injured - groin, knees, hips, and head (for the flu issues), maybe he won't ever get injured there again. We can reverse the curse of RICKY VOODOO! ..thoughts anyone?
