As the East’s playoff teams continue to finish up against the non-playoff half of the division, the Bruins stomped the Smurfs. The Penguins destroyed the Sabres. And the Islanders lost 2-1 to the Devils.
So there we are then...
Islanders News
About last night:
- Whatever. [LHH]
- Losing to the “lowly” Devils. [Newsday | All About the Jersey]
- Trotz: “We’ve passed up a lot of chances. ... We’ve got to be better, we’ve got to execute better.” [NHL]
- Barry tried another look with the Barzal line. [Newsday]
- Officially now, the Islanders cannot finish no higher than third. [NYI Skinny]
- It was the first meeting against their former team for Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac, two ex-Devils still trying to find their fit with the Isles. [Newsday]

But beyond (and before) last night:
- Are we worried? On the latest PTIsles podcast, Noel and Joe hold a roundtable discussion and wonder whether the Isles can do a Verbal Kint. [LHH]
- Meanwhile, Mike and Dan share a mix of angst over recent performance and relish in the Islanders helping convince Dolan to behead the Rangers management team. [Islanders Anxiety]
Elsewhere
Last night’s NHL scores include the Bruins blanking the Rangers and the Penguins (and Jeff Carter’s four goals) showing no fear of Michael Houser.
- James Dolan and Larry Brooks continue a symbiotic relationship as the meddler uses the columnist’s platform to sell why he fired the Rangers management team. [Post]
- Meanwhile, not a lot here, but some other NHL execs (anonymously) reacting with disbelief about Dolan’s move. [Athletic]
- Ironically, Dolan’s statement (which drew a $250,000 fine from the league) has galvanized support for George Parros. Thanks a lot. [TSN]
- And in the “you can’t make this up” category, Pavel Buchnevich was suspended for high-sticking Anthony Mantha while trying to punch him in the face a game after T*m W*lson got a wee fine for punching several guys in the back of the head and various other parts. [Blueshirt Banter]
- So what’s next for the Rangers? (Hopefully lots of pain and misery and waste) [Blueshirt Banter]
- Out six weeks, Frederik Andersen felt rust in his AHL rehab appearance. [NHL]
- Will the Canucks extend Travis Green? Also yet again they swear T*m W*lson is really a swell guy. And the next Olympics are in jeopardy in terms of NHL participation. [TSN]
- The Devils are going back to Utica for their AHL affiliate with a 10-year agreement. [Utica Comets | All About the Jersey]
