The Islanders are in Newark tonight to play the Devils, then will be home for three straight against the still-reeling and injury-ravaged Sabres.
This is what you’d call an opportunity.
The Islanders and Devils split their first two meetings this season, but that was in January when the Islanders were still finding their footing and before the Devils had their Covid issues and parachuted down to just-above-Buffalo status.
In that time they’ve also made Nico Hischier the league’s youngest captain. Hischier left their last game after taking a P.K. Subban puck to the face.
After Ilya Sorokin’s second 20-save shutout, the Islanders will go back to Semyon Varlamov in goal. Cal Clutterbuck was still described as a game-time decision.
Of possible concern (but hopefully moot gametime, please?):
With about 25 minutes until warmups in Newark, #Isles official roster stands at 22 -- no Wahlstrom. Could mean Clutterbuck is back. Could mean the site isn't updating. But as of now, Wahlstrom not back from the taxi squad for tonight's game.
