Lighthouse Lookback Podcast: Peter Mannino

From in front of the net, to behind the bench

The 2008-09 season was a nightmare for Rick DiPietro. The former first overall pick in the 2000 NHL Draft had surgery in the summer on his knee, causing him to miss the first four games of the season. DiPietro returned to play two-plus games before leaving his third game back with another knee injury which prompted another knee surgery. In total, the goaltender would play just five games this season.

DP’s absence gave opportunities to Yann Danis, Joey MacDonald and Peter Mannino. The Michigan native signed with the Islanders following four seasons at the University of Denver, one of which ended with a NCAA Championship.

Mannino played three games with the Islanders, while spending the majority of the season with Bridgeport and Utah before signing with the Atlanta Thrashers in the offseason.
