For the Islanders, it is imperative that they take two points from a bottom-feeding opponent in the other conference; likewise, the Kings organization would probably be okay if they came out of tonight’s game without a point, as it helps improve their draft odds.
But, as we know, hockey players have a lot of pride. And the Kings, many of whom wear proudly the pride of being a Stanley Cup champion, almost certainly do not want to be rolled over. So while this game, on the surface, could and should be a guaranteed two points for the Islanders, we know that is not the case.
Given the ever-toughening schedule the Islanders face over the next couple months, they’d be wise to not let these two points slip away.

Last night’s NHL scores were the Rangers beating the Maple Leafs 5-3 and the Bruins beating the Blackhawks 2-1 in overtime.
