The New York Islanders finished the job last night, though there was a moment where it looked like it wouldn’t be much of a job at all, followed by nearly 40 minutes where it looked like the job would be botched miserably.

Regardless, two nights, two wins, four points and no consolation points conceded with division rivals. Last night may have carried a hefty price, however.

Islanders News

  • But Casey Cizikas went down with an injury. Knee? Skate cut? Other? We may learn more Thursday. And may expect a callup today as they head out on the road. [Newsday | Islanders Insight]
  • Continuing to watch: The new-ish pairing of Pulock with Devon Toews, which has done pretty well against some tough opponents so far. [Newsday]
  • Pivotal week for the Islanders off to a good start. What do we imagine that tells Lou Lamoriello? [Athletic]
  • The Sound Tigers still have quite the uphill battle, but it was a productive weekend. [Bridgeport Report]
  • Dude With Sign was there with a very easy message. [Isles]

Elsewhere

Last night’s NHL scores include the Penguins losing in overtime, and the Hurricanes losing in regulation, which is nice.

  • Scary scene in Anaheim as Blues veteran defenseman Jay Bouwmeester collapsed on the bench. This is on the dads’ trip, so his father was in the building. He was alert as they stretchered him to the ambulance. The game was postponed, while tied 1-1 in the first period. [NHL | STLtoday]
  • And Cizikas wasn’t the only scary apparent skate injury last night. Detroit’s Brendan Perlini took a no-doubt skate to the face, creating a deep gash. [USA Today]
  • Jacob Trouba and Josh Morrissey were awesome together in Winnipeg, then got big contracts with separate teams and...it hasn’t gone so well for either. [Athletic]
  • Granted the Pacific is terrible and anyone can win it, but if the Coyotes keep this up...could they be in the position to deal Taylor Hall? [TSN]
  • The Wild smoked the Golden Knights last night, which may or may not be inferred as a reaction to the Jason Zucker trade and Billy “McNulty” Guerin saying there will be more trades if he sees any “quit” in this team. [NHL]
  • Here are many, many sad stats about the truly awful Detroit Red Wings, who are holding our friend Frans hostage. [FanSided]
  • Rob Blake gives rather frank answers about the state of the Kings and their rebuild. [NHL]
  • As MLB ponders yet more playoff format changes, an old man’s argument for leaving the NHL playoffs alone. (I agree, frankly. 16 is just fine, thanks.) [THN]
  • Connor McDavid will miss 2-3 weeks with a quad injury. [NHL]
  • The Avalanche will be without Nazem Kadri indefinitely. [NHL]
