Only two more games before the All-Star break/bye week.

The Islanders don’t have any time to dwell on yesterday’s implosion to the Capitals. They’re back on the road this evening to take on the Hurricanes.

The last time these two teams played, it was game no. 4 on October 11. It was an early season rematch of their second round series that went, uh, poorly. So, too, did that fourth game of the season. Carolina topped New York 5-2. But that was the last game the Islanders lost until November 7 and the last game they lost in regulation until November 25.

So, they haven’t beaten Carolina in six tries dating back to last regular season, including four playoff games. But a win tonight to prove they can beat them again would go a long way to forgetting yesterday afternoon.

It seems like it will be Thomas Greiss tonight in Raleigh, and that he will get back to splitting duty for the foreseeable future.

No other lineup news, though, but not sure who they would take out. Despite his antics yesterday, I doubt Barry Trotz would take out Devon Toews, who recorded the first three point game of his career.

I enjoy the fun. But at the same time, the Islanders have gotten cheeky with a lead exactly twice under Barry Trotz (last time was Brock Nelson tapping the head of Curtis McElhinney during the playoffs against these very ‘Canes) and both times they lost in regulation. So they should probably avoid it. Embrace the boring if it means more wins.

Meanwhile, it sounds like Justin Williams will make his season debut tonight. And they will have James Reimer in net.

Other than that, though, I can’t seem to find any lineup news regarding Carolina. And warm-ups are going on. So who knows!

FIGs go here.
