NHL NHLs Lehner’s Masterton Trophy engraving, mistakes Islanders for those other guys

Robin Lehner isn’t an Islander anymore, but his two award wins from the 2018-19 season were based on work done in an Islanders uniform and will go down in the team’s record books. Someone needs to tell that to whoever does the engraving on the trophies.

As Lehner posted on his Twitter account today, the Masterton Trophy he received recently has a rather egregious - and nigh unconscionable - typo. Click for the full picture:

Robin Lehner was awarded the Masterton Trophy in 2019 for being “the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey” after coming forward with his mental health and substance abuse struggles. A year after entering rehab, Lehner was a Vezina Trophy finalist as the league’s best goalie and a co-winner of the William Jennings Trophy, along with teammate Thomas Greiss, for allowing the least goals against. He signed with the Chicago Blackhawks as a free agent on July 1.

The New York Islanders are a professional ice hockey team that has been a member of the National Hockey League since 1972.

The New York Rangers are also a professional hockey team. Robin Lehner has never played for them, but clearly whoever engraved this trophy does.
