  • Following on yesterday’s rumor (which weirdly involved the Isles), the Smurfs have acquired Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba for Neal Pionk and the 20th overall pick in Friday’s draft (which they originally owned before trading it for Kevin Hayes). • Jim Rutherford comes out and admits Phil Kessel vetoed a trade. You’re not gonna change his mind, dude. [NHL]
  • The Blues front office was patient with this group — just barely —but had good reason to be so. [TSN]
  • The Bruins embrace healthy scratched David Backes as “an important part of our team,” which is the kiss of death, surely. [NHL]
  • Don’t take my word for it (okay do, actually, but later): The Cup was a bigger-than-normal deal for the Blues and St. Louis. [Athletic]
  • As reported yesterday, the Ducks did indeed name Dallas Eakins head coach. [NHL]
  • The Americans are about to have a major showing in the first round of the draft. [TSN]
  • The draft also offers the new Oilers regime a chance to show they’re not the same as the old boss. [Sportsnet]
  • Anthony Duclair finds some stability with a one-year extension in Ottawa. [NHL]
