Islanders News

Let’s preview the damn thing, shall we? [Islanders]

Matt Martin was wearing a regular jersey at practice yesterday:

  • The Islanders have a chance to make history tonight, but they didn’t even noticed. Too focused on the task at hand. Namely, taking each game as it comes. [Newsday]
  • Anthony Beauvillier is benefitting and even thriving in an elevated role this season. [Islanders]

Let’s relive Saturday night’s win over the Flyers, just one more time:

  • VIDEO: Kevin Weekes breaks down his top five goalie tandems in the NHL and... We’re Number 1! We’re Number 1! [NHL]
  • Speaking of number 1, that’s where the Isles sit in the latest Rotoworld power rankings.
  • Bode Wilde is excited to get his pro career going now that he has made his AHL debut with the Sound Tigers. [Islanders]
  • Samuel Bolduc, Reece Newkirk (again!), and Robin Salo stood out this week for the Isles in Diapers. [Prospect Report]
  • The Maple Leafs loss to the Islanders perfectly encapsulates how Mike Babcock needs to adapt his team’s game. I love that the Islanders have Barry Trotz. [The Point]
  • The “Thoughts” structure is big right now, so here are Five Thoughts on the Islanders. [IslesBlog]
  • LATE ADD: My apologies to Travis for not including this on the initial publish, but he’s tracking “close” scoring chances for the Islanders this season and he’s doing excellent work. [LHH]
  • Can’t tell if Craig Custance went behind the scenes or if he just spoke to GMs, but he published a good piece about what it’s like at the GMs meetings, and Lou Lamoriello, as you might imagine, plays a large role at the meetings. [The Athletic]
  • The Islanders hosted an Honor Code program at Sewanhaka High School. [Islanders]

Elsewhere

Last night’s NHL scores include the Capitals beating the Ducks in regulation.

  • The Devils placed goalie Cory Schneider on waivers. He has two years left at a $6 million cap hit. Brutal, for him and the team. [NHL]
  • The Sabres have announced that Kyle Okposo has sustained another concussion. I hope he seriously considers retirement, or at least rosteritis so he can keep collecting his check. His replacement call-up, Tage Thompson, also got hurt and is out 3-5 weeks. [Buffalo News]
  • Jonathan Drouin is going to have wrist surgery and will be out indefinitely for the Canadiens. [NHL]
  • What’s on a goalie’s mind? More specifically, how did Coyotes goalie Darcy Kuemper rediscover his love for the game? [The Athletic]
  • I feel like they say this every year, but the NHL expects to have Player/Puck Tracking ready to go by the playoffs. [NHL]
  • Last night was the Hockey Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Toronto. Here are some of the highlights from the ceremony. [NHL]
  • One of the inductees, Sergei Zubov, was quietly effective throughout his career. [NHL]
  • After Don Cherry, where do we go from here? [Silver Seven]
