Don’t look now, but...rookie camp begins tomorrow! Yesterday the Islanders released the rookie camp schedule, which is essentially 9:35 a.m. practices (closed to the public, sorry) each day leading up to the rookie/prospect game against the Flyers on Sept. 12.

Islanders Reading

  • The rookie camp roster has not been released just yet, but we have it on good authority it will include this guy... There are a lot of puns you can make with Pius Suter’s name but just know he is a pious suitor of New York Islanders training camp. (And he’s Swiss.) [LHH]

  • Staple posts the first State of the Team season preview with a rundown of, well, a team still under construction. [Athletic]
  • The contest to name the Islanders guide dog ended with the best possible outcome: Radar. (Of course!) [Isles]
  • Holy cow, KHL Magnitogorsk retired former Sound Tiger Chris Lee’s number. [Soundin’ Off]

Elsewhere

  • The AHL has upgraded its streaming service while dropping the price significantly, understanding that maybe if it’s product is more accessible to the masses...it might just catch on. [AHL]
  • Blake Wheeler is very good but is also about to be very old. What to make of his massive new contract extension? [Cap Space | TSN]
  • Former Hall of Fame player, Cup-winning GM, and advisor Serge Savard calls the Canadiens’ situation “sad.” [Gazette]
  • It’s all part of a weird, frankly bizarre Canadiens culture under Marc Bergevin in his sixth year. [Gazette]
  • Seattle’s almost-pre-ordained expansion bid will make a presentation to the BOG the first week of October. [PHT | TSN]
  • On defensive handedness (e.g. playing your off side) and their impact on zone exits. [Oilers site with generic URL]
  • Somehow Cody Franson is going to end up signing in the KHL instead of with an NHL team. [TSN]
  • Bob McKenzie ends his summer cottage chilling to talk to Leafs GM Kyle Dubas and...wait, why do I care? [TSN]
