Matt Martin got his reunion with Casey Cizikas and Cal Clutterbuck, and an ovation as he returned with the ol’ gang to Nassau Coliseum. Then they set the tone, banged some bodies, did some damage (see “Shuttlebuck” below).

The Islanders skated to a 3-0 victory in this preseason opener, Robin Lehner drawing an ovation and half of a shutout. Sebastian Aho and “Shuttlebuck” had goals too.

A completely different lineup will be used for part II in Philadelphia tonight. Here’s the lineup they used yesterday afternoon (and here was the PP1 setup):

  • Kieffer Bellows had a goal (power play one-timer), assist, and a clang off the post but you know it was a shot block that impressed Barry Trotz more. [Newsday | Islanders Insight]
  • NEW! Arthur Staple gives us the skinny on KHL import Jan Kovar at The Athletic. Of note:

Kovar was thrilled to find a welcoming group. “Johnny Boychuk, he was my driver for two weeks,” he said. “Every morning, I have a coffee ready, he picks me up and we go.”
