They’re here! Regulars reported to camp for media and fittings yesterday, and now everybody hits the ice today to start training camp for real. Bring it on, hockey is back.

It’s the cat’s pajamas.

Islanders News

  • The story of the day was Robin Lehner’s courageous first-person piece on his bipolar disorder and alcohol struggles, and what he’s done about them. Penned for The Athletic, which unlocked their subscription wall for it, but important enough to be covered everywhere. [Athletic | LHH | Newsday]
  • Teammates react and offer their full support to Lehner. [Isles | Athletic]
  • As camp opens, all eyes on Mathew Barzal, the New Hope. [Newsday]
  • The whole team is ready to prove itself...and battle for jobs. [Isles] Optimistic under Barry Trotz. [Newsday]
  • But here’s the news you’ve been waiting for: “Free agent defensemen Luca Sbisa and Dennis Seidenberg as well as forward Stephen Gionta are attending Islanders training camp on professional tryouts (PTOs).” [Isles]
  • Anders Lee and Jordan Eberle are determined not to let their pending free agency affect their season. Someone check their pajamas. [Newsday]
  • Our 20 Questions series continued with 13: Can Thomas Greiss rebound? [LHH] (Or if you prefer 5 questions, Newsday’s got you covered.)
  • Ryan Hitchcock and Otto Koivula have formed an unlikely pair who may continue at Bridgeport. [Athletic]
  • Leftover notes from the rookie game loss to the Flyers the other night. [Isles]

Elsewhere

  • Erik Karlsson has been traded to San Jose for four players and four picks. Reportedly the Senators wouldn’t deal him to the East, which is so Ottawa. Go ahead and limit yourself to half the league when trying to cash in your biggest chip. [NHL | Fear The Fin | Silver Seven]
  • Tyler Seguin has signed an eight-year extension with a full no-move clause. [NHL | Defending Big D]
  • This season is a crossroads for the Stars, and not just Jason Spezza neither. [Defending Big D]
  • Training camp updates: Patrice Bergeron won’t be ready for the start of camp, Ryan Suter is cleared for camp but might not play games, and the Senators face yet another setback. [NHL]
  • The Top 10 Goalie Tandems by relative value. [Cap Space]
  • The Avalanche will have the (same) third jersey, which apparently their fans really like. [MHH]
