The 2018 NHL Draft takes place in Dallas Friday and Saturday night, and their are several ways to celebrate the league’s annual teenage meat market.
Re-watch Young Bossy, Tavares, Barzal
MSG, the Islanders’ broadcast rights holder, is doing “Rookie Week” as a leadup to the NHL and NBA drafts. They’ll feature games with outstanding rookie performances from New York teams in these two leagues.
For the Islanders, that means the following games:
- Mike Bossy scores his first NHL goal (Oct. 13, 1977 vs. Sabres)
Airs Tuesday, June 19, at 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
- John Tavares scores 5 points (March 6, 2010 at Vancouver Canucks)
Airs Wednesday, June 20,, at 1:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.
(Also from that game: Dylan Reese’s 1st NHL goal!)
- Mathew Barzal scores 5 points (Jan. 13, 2018 vs. Rangers)
Friday, June 22, at 1:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.
(The Isles spanked their rivals while continuing to bleed shots against poor Jaro)
Draft Party at the Coliseum
The traditional Draft Party for the Islanders will take place at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Friday, June 22, for the first round of the draft. The Islanders currently hold the 11th and 12th overall picks in the draft, which should make for good theater and the potential for draft floor trades:
“Enjoy live music on the plaza and tailgate games on the LIU Post Lawns starting at 5 p.m.. The GEICO Main Entrance will open at 6PM, and fans can enjoy coverage from hosts Chris King and Shannon Hogan, plus special guests, as the team prepares to make two scheduled first round selections.
Ticket proceeds benefit youth sports programs on Long Island. Islanders Season Ticket Members, Rock the Island Plan Holders and Long Island All Access Members can reserve complimentary tickets by completing the RSVP form. There will be various team shop sales with a main course of Ryan Pulock and a side of Eric Boulton.
