Yesterday featured a few late and promising developments on the Islanders news front. Let’s get to it.

Islanders Reading

  • Just a few sentences, but promising ones to kick off the latest TSN Insiders: Darren Dreger says John Tavares is “focused on negotiations with the Islanders,” with his agent in daily contact with Lou Lamoriello. [TSN | Sportsnet jumps on that wagon | LHH reaction]
  • NEW this morning: Pierre LeBrun adds “more and more” NHL team executives tell him they think Tavares is staying put. However, much of that is just an assumption based on Lou taking the job. [The Athletic]
  • The buyout window officially opened today. Here’s how it works, and some Islanders candidates. We’ll revisit a few of them later today. [LHH]
  • No surprise here, but first reports: Greg Conin has been let go as associate coach. [Newsday] It’s one of at least two post-Weight dismissals, with more to come. [SNY] No changes to report (yet?) in Bridgeport. [Soundin’ Off]
  • LHH Flashback: Man, remember how Cronin seemed like a hire in the wrong direction back from the beginning? Revisited last summer. [Fanpost]
  • Speaking of Fanposts, what’s your offseason wishlist? (Besides the wishes already granted, of course.) jrams16 offers a few. [Fanpost]
  • Stan Fischler projects who Lou might draft, harkening back to the homegrown players on his New Jersey Cup winners. [MSG]
  • Before yesterday’s news, Arthur Staple discussed some of the moves and speculation on this podcast (he’s about a third of the way in).
  • PA Parenteau, who got his first real NHL shot with the Islanders, is retiring. [TSN | Great interview at The Athletic]

Elsewhere

  • The Maple Leafs’ AHL affiliate, the Marlies, and their promising coach Sheldon Keefe have won the AHL’s Calder Cup. [PPP]
  • Where will Milan Lucic end up? Can Edmonton actually move him? [Edmonton Journal]
  • Jeff Skinner, possibly on the trade block in Carolina, could help a lot of teams. [TSN]
  • Off-Season Game Plan: Winnipeg Jets edition [TSN]
  • Brooks Orpik said part of his finger “kinda fell off.” [Puck Daddy]
  • Trade: The Sabures have given up on Hudson Fasching and found a taker in the Coytoes. [Die by the Blade]
  • SB Nation NHL Mock Draft (we’ll have our final pick up later today): Hawks take Addison at #27 [Second City Hockey]
