New York Rangers at New York Islanders [Game 81]

The battle for New York is the battle for last place

Dennis Schneidler-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Islanders and New York Rangers square off for one last time this season at Barclays in a battle for last place. Fans of both clubs were certainly hoping for more this year. The Rangers currently sit one point ahead of the Islanders.

Of course this could be John Tavares' last game at home in an Islanders uniform depending on what happens this off-season. Tavares has not committed to re-signing with the Islanders. The best player many Islander fans have seen don an Islanders uniform might not be here next year.

There are plenty of other potential goodbyes to be said in tonight's contest in addition to Tavares. Forwards Shane Prince, Ross Johnston, and Chris Wagner, defensemen Dennis Seidenberg, Thomas Hickey, and Brandon Davidson, and goalie Jaroslav Halak are all without contracts entering the off-season. There are the potential trades that could see others depart as well.

Halak will get the start tonight. The Rangers are countering with Ondrej Pavelec in net. Pavelec is in the last year of a one year deal and could be saying goodbye to his team himself.

Tonight's game is on MSG+2. Coverage begins at 6:30 P.M. E.S.T. Here's the channel lineup:
