The Islanders won last night to pull two points ahead of Edmonton and Chicago in the overall standings (and four above Detroit), and you’ll just have to live with that and recalculate your lottery odds, I suppose.

Islanders Reading

  • About last night: It was Fan Appreciation Night, so despite your tanking needs, that was a fun one that stuck it to a (surely?) playoff-bound rival. [LHH] Pair of goals from the two top stars. [Newsday] The Flyers had a chance to clinch, but blew it. [NHL] Because Flyers. [BSH]
  • And, like, those two stars want to play together as Islanders for a long, long time, right? That’s what Tavares’ latest comments mean, yes? [Newsday] [LHH Tavares Contract Encyclopedia]
  • Staple on the emergence of the Eberle-Barzal-Beauvillier line. Next year’s top line? [The Athletic]
  • Excellent: Evgeni Nabokov reflects on his relationship with Stan Fischler, as the two shared their late careers around the Islanders bantering for MSG. “At first it was just the regular old questions, and then...” [MSG]
  • Anders Lee is a good guy, now officially labeled as such. [The Athletic] Also: He’s enjoying his career year. [Isles Insight]
  • The Sound Tigers played to a big kid-friendly crowd in the morning, and got a win over the P-Bruins. Distant playoff hopes still alive. The power play helped. [CT Post | Soundin’ Off]
  • Meanwhile, Kyle Schempp’s determined effort has earned him praise and some more opportunities with the Sound Tigers in his second pro year. [CT Post]
  • Peter Mannino is on the coaching staff of Miami of Ohio, where he can tell them tales of beating the Blackhawks in their prime with 40 saves in Chicago for a team that was tanking for Tavares. [Miami Student.net]
  • The ever-shifting case of Thomas Hickey, current Isles plus/minus leader. [Elite Sports NY]

Elsewhere

Last night’s NHL scores include the Panthers beating the Predators to keep their unlikely chase alive.

  • Top Ducks defenseman Cam Fowler is out two to six weeks. They are still three points up in the wild card, but that injury will hurt if/when they are in the playoffs. [OC Register]
  • The huge impact of the Sedins and where the Canucks go from here. [Sportsnet]
  • A bunch of reasons to cheer for the Jets in the playoffs. I was already on board, because they are a damn good, fun-to-watch team. [HEOTP]
  • The Stars are a very talented compilation of players but something just didn’t work this year. [Dallas News]
  • Erik Karlsson grabbed the puck from the final home game in Ottawa, and will stay home with grieving family rather than travel for their final road games. [NHL]
