No one can call the NHL’s Metropolitan Division tough anymore. Closely packed, yes... Up for grabs, also works... but tough, it’s in 4th place out of 4 divisions, and it’s not even close. When you compare it to the Central, which features all 7 teams above average, it doesn’t even look like pro hockey anymore.
Here’s what those other guys had to say:

Buffalo News | 2/16/2019 | 6 | 6 | Playoff site decision using both arenas is probably best compromise. |
The Hockey Guy | 2/16/2019 | 3 | 3 | There isn't a player on this roster that is not playing well. |
Brian Simmons | 2/15/2019 | 3 | 4 | |
ESPN | 2/14/2019 | 6 | 5 | What's so wrong about loving two goalies equally? Robin Lehner has gotten a bit more attention, but Thomas Greiss is only a slight step behind and has gone 4-0-1, saving 154 of 157 shots (.981 save percentage) in his past five games. |
SportsNet | 2/13/2019 | 4 | 4 | Trade Deadline Prediction: Trader upgrader… we’re guessing. Lou Lamoriello’s lips are sealed like the Ark of the Covenant, but the GM has to reward a group that has rocked the Metropolitan, doesn’t he? While his lack of a 2019 third- or fourth-round pick gives us reason to think he’d be hesitant to let go of a first or second as well, the Islanders should be in the mix for the high-end forwards that become available. |
NBC | 2/11/2019 | 7 | 7 | The Islanders are a perfect 9-0 in the second half of back-to-backs. |
CBS | 2/6/2019 | 6 | 6 | They're legitimate. They beat who they're supposed to and give the real ones a fight. Barry Trotz really got this defense up to par. |
NJ.com | 2/5/2019 | 5 | 5 | A 1-0 shootout loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning provided another example of how the Islanders can hang with the league's top teams. After being the NHL's worst defense in 2017-18, things have turned around dramatically on Long Island. |
In our backyard...
The Devils (3-0-0) were the only team to have a really good week, and that served to barely get them back to average (100.7), which was good for 2nd in the division and 16th in the league. Pittsburgh’s week (2-1-0) had them the only other team making a positive move in the rankings, to 5th in the Metro, and 20th in the league. If it wasn’t for the bottom half of the Atlantic, the Metro would be truly pathetic.
Metro - 100.5

15 | New Jersey Devils | 58 | 21 | 33 | 4 | 46 | 87.6 | 26 | 88.7 | 25 |
The Isles 1-2-0 week cost them 1 spot in the division, and 2 in the overall.
Completing the weakest conference is the division with the league’s top team, and 4 of the 5 worst.

Tampa moves back into the top overall spot. Boston remains strong. Toronto rebounds back into the top 10. And then there’s everyone else. Florida’s 3-0-0 week got them out of the bottom 5, and even past the Rangers and Blue Jackets into 10th in the conference, 22nd overall.
And now, real hockey...

Two of these 7 teams will miss the playoffs. If they got moves to the Metro, 7th place Chicago would be in 3rd, half a point behind New Jersey for second. Washington, the top Metro team, would be in 5th in the Central.

Not much change out here. Two above average teams will miss the playoffs.
The week ahead
Mon 2/5 - vs Nashville (2)
Thu 2/8 - @ Buffalo (30)
Fri 2/9 - vs Detroit (27)
The Isles will probably get 2 points this week, with an improbable win over Nashville tempered by some Brooklyn beer league team showing up in the bad losses to Buffalo and Detroit.
