The New York Islanders will try to get back to real .500 tonight at Little Caesar’s as they take on the Detroit Red Wings. The Islanders are coming off of a six to two loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins where their lack of talent really showed. The Islanders were once again listless on the power play and scored one goal at even strength while they were dominated in possession.
Greiss will get his seventh game in eight contests as his delta save percentage continues to plummet. Robin Lehner is expected to be healthy enough to back up tonight. In the grand scheme of things, Greiss has not seen that much action relative to the rest of the league’s starters as he’s tied for 20th in games played, but it’s the consecutive games that has really been the issue.
Luca Sbisa is back in action and will play in place of Adam Pelech. Pelech is actually third behind Thomas Hickey and Johnny Boychuk in relative xGF% and carries a positive goal differential in five-on-five play, but most wouldn’t know it. He is routinely scapegoated as he has a penchant for putting the puck in his own net and will be out tonight.
Game time is at 7:00 P.M. E.S.T.
