Mike and Dan discuss the Islanders positives and negatives after an up-and-down week of games, which saw one satisfying win, a couple of tough losses and one blowout.

They also talk about Mathew Barzal looking like his old self while a few of his teammates have yet to become their best selves, and how nobody outside of Islanders fans have really been paying attention. Finally, they hit on the latest Belmont news and the continuing presence of Billy Joel.

Once again, Dan forgot to mention his Tao of Trotz on the show, so here it is: Following the loss to Winnipeg comes what’s sure to be an all time classic: “They don’t get paid to hang in. They get paid to win.”

  • Arthur Staple on Ryan Pulock and The Art of Slapshot Maintenance.
  • Tyler Dellow on Mathew Barzal’s first line performance this season. To wit:
The Islanders are pretty stunning though — they shot 9.5 per cent with Barzal on the ice last year and 6.0 per cent this year. The Islanders are making it up elsewhere at the moment, shooting almost 12 per cent when Barzal isn’t on the ice. I’d expect Barzal’s numbers to improve — they’d better if the Islanders are going to stay in the hunt because they won’t keep shooting 12 per cent when he’s on the bench.
