Washington Capitals at New York Islanders [Game 23]

NHL: Washington Capitals at New York Islanders Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Islanders are set to take on the rival Washington Capitals in a battle for supremacy in the Metropolitan Division. The Islanders are only three points back of the Capitals with a game in hand. A victory here would put the Islanders into second place.

Thomas Greiss is getting the nod in net once again. This is the third start in four days for Greiss. Greiss’ five-on-five delta save percentage and only trails the Boston BruinsJaroslav Halak, Nashville PredatorsPekka Rinne, and Calgary FlamesDavid Rittich out of all goalies that have at least 10 starts.

The Islanders will go with the same lineup that defeated the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. Stephen Gionta has been incredibly ineffective since his arrival and he’ll continue to ride the pine along with Luca Sbisa. Tanner Fritz gets his second opportunity since being recalled and while nobody expects him to become an all-star, he at least has some speed and agility which is something Gionta no longer has.

UPDATE: Matt Martin is in and Ross Johnston is a healthy scratch.

Tonight’s game is at 7:00 P.M. E.S.T.
