Islanders Place Matt Martin, Casey Cizikas, Andrew Ladd on IR, Recall Michael Dal Colle, Stephen Gionta

The New York Islanders have placed Matt Martin, Casey Cizikas, and Andrew Ladd on the I.R. according to the team and Arthur Staple.

Martin was injured in a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins back on November first. He left in the third with what is now being called an upper body injury. He is listed as day-to-day.

Cizikas and Ladd were both injured during the Islanders last contest against the Vancouver Canucks. It’s exceptionally brutal as the Islanders were playing Vancouver as they were coming in for the second night of their back-to-back and the Islanders did everything right in that game and came away with a five to two victory; losing two players in the effort hardly seems fair. Both Cizikas and Ladd have lower body injuries.

Stephen Gionta and Michael Dal Colle have been recalled to the roster for tonight’s contest against the New York Rangers. Gionta was recalled in part because the Islanders needed somebody to play centre while Dal Colle has probably been the Sound Tigers best player and plays left wing. Gionta will most certainly be on line four - Dal Colle is more interesting as the Islanders have Ross Johnston as a spare left winger. Obviously one of Dal Colle or Johnston will get the scratch and they could be anywhere from the second line to the fourth depending on who gets the call.
