Former Islanders majority owner Charles Wang passed away Sunday at his home in Oyster Bay after a battle with lung cancer. Wang was 74.

I chat with Newsday’s Jim Baumbach, who has covered Wang and the Islanders off the ice since 2007. Baumbach talks about how Wang planted the seeds for the Islanders arena in Belmont.

The outpouring of remembrance can be felt, not only with the Islanders, but around the league as well, with former players paying their respects.

One of those players is former captain John Tavares, who tweeted a heartfelt response to Wang’s passing. Naturally, the response to that response has been mixed.
