All About The Jersey

The New York Islanders take to the ice for the second time in less than 24 hours, this time on home ice. They'll take on the Metropolitan division rivals from across the river in the New Jersey Devils. A win tonight and the Islanders would tie the Devils in points (though New Jersey would have two games in hand).

The Islanders stole a game last night against the Montreal Canadiens that they had no business winning. Shot attempts were 69 to 33 at the end of the game and the Canadiens carried the scoring chance and high danger chance ratio as well. Fortunately for the Islanders Thomas Greiss had one heck of a performance as he stopped 52 of the Canadiens 56 shots, but they'll need to be much better tonight.

Dennis Seidenberg might be in for Scott Mayfield tonight as Mayfield took a shot to the face in last night's game. That will be a game time decision, but all other spots appear to be set. Josh Bailey has started to skate again while Johnny Boychuk and Andrew Ladd haven't started practicing again.

The Islanders get yet another goaltending break again in tonight's contest. After beating up on the league's tenth worst goalie by adjusted save percentage in Carey Price in last night's game, they'll get to square off against its fourth worst goalie in Keith Kinkaid. Of course Price has a much longer track record of success in this league and there's a much lower chance of regression against Kinkaid, so there's no reason the Islanders high-powered offense shouldn't click here tonight.

Jaroslav Halak gets the start in tonight's contest. The Islanders get the MSG+ broadcast tonight while the Devils will be on MSG+2. Puck drop will be at 7:05 P.M. E.S.T.
