Yesterday’s date on the NHL summer calendar was arbitration deadline day. By 5 p.m. all arbitration-eligible players needed to decide whether or not they file.
As explained in the Calvin de Haan post, these days electing for arbitration increasingly means avoiding a hearing — but putting a deadline for both parties on getting a contract done — and also opening up a second buyout window for the club.
