The NHL released the full order of picks for next week’s Entry Draft, so we can see where the Islanders selections will fall. In a shocking turn of events, finishing one point out of the playoffs means your draft picks land just about smack in the middle of each round.
Here is a list of the five slots in which the Islanders have picks. Please note they have no selections in the fourth or sixth rounds.
First Round
No. 15
Second Round
No. 46
Third Round
No. 77
Fifth Round
No. 139
Seventh Round
No. 201
The Islanders fourth round pick, No. 108, belongs to Philadelphia thanks to a trade from last year’s draft that allowed the Islanders to take Finnish forward Otto Koivula. Their sixth round pick, No. 170, belongs to Chicago due to another trade from last year’s draft, which the Islanders used to take Russian forward Anatoli Golyshev. I totally forgot that both of these deals happened, and I wrote both of those posts.
This year’s first round is Friday, June 23 at 7 p.m. ET and will air on NBCSN and Sportsnet. Rounds 2-7 will take place on Saturday, June 24 and will be broadcast on NHL Network and Sportsnet starting at 10 a.m.
Division rivals New Jersey and Philadelphia have the first two picks. The Flyers and Detroit Red Wings each have 11 picks in the draft, while Chicago and Carolina each have 10.
