After last night’s welcome back party in Denver, the Islanders go right back to work tonight in Arizona. They’re kinda like Wild West desperados except they lose a lot of gunfights and don’t wear big hats.
FIG Picks go here. Game time is 8 pm Eastern despite the time difference.
Islanders readings
- Recaps of the Avalanche's first home win since 2006: LHH | Newsday | Islanders | NHL.com | NYI Skinny | MHH
- Arthur Staple tries to make you feel better by explaining how truly awful the Avalanche's season has been. Also, Adam Pelech is back. [Newsday]
- Ryan Strome wants consistency. If he plays with the jump he had last night, he'll be okay. [Newsday]
- Brent Thompson played the role of proud hockey and Canadian turncoat had as his son Tage won gold at World Juniors with Team USA. [CT Post]
- Who's up and who's down for the Sound Tigers, who play tonight at Hartford. [Soundin Off]
- Out in the WHL, Parker Wotherspoon has become one of the best players the Tri-City Americans have ever had and he keeps piling up accolades. I know a certain garik that's high on him, too. [Tri-City Herald]
- Two from Missouri: Having Eamon McAdam gives a Mavericks a spark [Examiner] | McAdam and the Mavs came from 4-0 down to beat Wichita 5-4 in OT last night. [Mavs]
- The annual FDNY-NYPD charity hockey game will take place at Barclays Center on Saturday, March 18. Let's hope no brawls break out. [Barclays]
- No Snark Zone: A nice love story of a couple bonding for life thanks to the Islanders. [Newsday]
Around the NHL
- Man, bad break for Brendan Gallagher, who's gonna miss EIGHT WEEKS with a busted hand. Remember when Johnny Boychuk broke one of Gallagher's fingers with a slapshot last season? The kid might want to start to learn how to write with his feet. [EOTP]
- The Panthers' back-up goalie last night was a ticket sales rep, who put on the pads when Roberto Luongo went down and James Reimer started. [Puck Daddy]
- More on Team USA's World Junior win and Canada's heartbreak. [TSN.ca]
- Bill Daly was scouting China for possible NHL regular season games. I wonder if any of the places he ate at mistook him for Andrew Zimmern. [Puck Daddy]
