At long last, the 2016 World Cup of Hockey finally opens today with two round robin games from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.
The tournament’s first game will feature Islanders goalie Jaroslav Halak and about a dozen other former or current Isles facing Team USA (and assistant coach Jack Capuano). In the night game, John Tavares and a dominant-looking Team Canada start their march against the Czechs.
Schedule
- Team USA vs. Team Europe, 3:30 p.m., ESPN2, SN, TVA Sports
- Team Czech Republic vs. Team Canada, 8 p.m., ESPNEWS, SN, TVA Sports
(BTW: All the games going forward in the round robin portion will be at 3 and 8 pm so get used to it.)
The Islanders official site previews all four of their players at the tournament, including Thomas Griess (Europe) and Nikolay Kulemin (Russia).
Keep it here for all the chatting and fun. And remember the prime directive: NO ONE GET HURT.
