No Controversy: Islanders re-sign Prince to two-year contract worth $850K per

After splashing in the unrestricted free agent waters earlier today, the Islanders took care of some internal business in the evening, signing winger Shane Prince to a two-year contract worth $850,000 against the cap.

Prince was a restricted free agent and will remain so after the end of the deal, according to General Fanager (subject to change per confirmation).

Acquired from Ottawa at the trade deadline for a third round pick in this year's draft, Prince scored three regular season goals to go along with three in the playoffs. He scored twice in Game 1 against the Lightning, the Islanders' lone win in the second round. Possession-wise, he finished with a 5v5 CF% of 49.72% between the Islanders and Senators (per Corsica.hockey)

In an analytics-based article at the time of his acquisition, garik noted that Prince has the look of a scorer that just never had an opportunity to score. He got that chance with the Islanders, although it took him a while to get going. He never looked out of place among the team's top forwards, and was voted No. 6 by our panel in our Top 25 Under 25 list.

He also spawned a million jokes connecting him with the late, great Purple One. Mostly from me.

We saw flashes of a solid addition in the final two months of this season. Now we get the extended look. Let's hope Prince can become the kind of regular contributor the Islanders need in the wake of the not insignificant losses of Kyle Okposo and Frans Nielsen.
