Watch: John Tavares scores 200th career goal with a backhander over Tuukka Rask

200 goals since 2009. Not, like, in one game. Although with Tavares, it's possible.

I could say 200 things about how much I appreciate John Tavares and all the things he's done and continues to do for the Islanders, but that would take a lot of time. Instead, I'll watch and rewatch his 200th career goal, scored today at TD Garden against Tuukka Rask and the Boston Bruins.

The Islanders had a good second period shift in the Bruins' zone (a rarity to that point in the game), when Kyle Okposo took the puck off David Krecji's stick behind the net. Okposo falls in his attempted wraparound, but Tavares is there to backhand the loose puck over Rask's shoulder and into the top corner.

Tavares 200th goal

Tavares becomes the 11th player to score 200 goals for the Islanders and the first member of the 2009 NHL draft class to reach the milestone. He has goals in three straight games.

The goal tied Saturday's game, but Boston's David Pastrnak scored with eight seconds to go in the period to give the Bruins the lead again.

Here's to 200 more in an Islanders uniform for Tavares.
