Islanders Training Camp: A few more cuts, Tavares nears return

You guys over there, you guys stay here.

Get it to go, dude.

While you were watching the Jets get their green asses handed to them by the Seahawks this afternoon, the Islanders made a few more cuts from training camp to open space for players returning from the World Cup of Hockey.

The club assigned goalie Eamon McAdam to Bridgeport on Sunday, and released forward Connor Jones and defenseman Patrick Cullity from their PTO contracts. All three will join the Sound Tigers for their training camp this week.

Oh, and Bracken Kearns and Ben Holmstrom cleared waivers on Saturday and will also report to Bridgeport.

The moves reduce the Islanders camp roster to 35 for the time being, and gets the goalie count down to a slightly-less-ridiculous five, including Thomas Greiss and Jaroslav Halak. The team starts a string of three games in three nights Monday at Barclays Center against the Devils and will probably rotate players in and out each night.

Finally, it sounds like one World Cup champ is about ready to get back on the ice in Brooklyn.
