The Islanders prospect mini-camp kicks off today. Here are the attendees. There's a lot of measuring and orienting and inducting into The Islanders Way, but Wednesday will also offer a public scrimmage at Barclays Center.
Islanders Reads
- Individual game tickets for this season go on sale today (for Brooklynites), Wednesday (for scrimmage attendees) and Thursday (for all the rest of the mortals). [LHH]
- While you're there, you might check out the flagpole from Ebbets Field. [Forgotten New York]
- Arthur Staple phoned into the studio to talk Ehrhoff (no) and Sharp (also no) and Grabner (training camp maybe?). [SNY Point Blank podcast]
- Former Islanders goalie Anders Nilsson is returning to North America on a one-way, $1 million NHL deal, and the winner is...the Edmonton Oilers, who acquired him for 2014 5th-round pick Liam Coughlin. [@Bob_Stauffer | Edmonton Journal | Second City]
- Should you be worried, even a bit, about Nilsson making the Isles rue the day they sent him away? Nah. [LHH]
- You know who else found work? Bruno Gervais. In Germany. [PHT]
Beyond Brooklyn
- Strome the Younger has signed his ELC with the Coyotes, putting a temporary end to all of our Toronto-esque pleas that he should "pull a Lindros and demand a trade to the Isles, a contender." [Puck Daddy]
- Don Maloney wants to upgrade his blueline, but he has to tell each free agent that hey, he doesn't know what's happening in Glendale either. [AZ Central]
- The Bruins (re)signed some guys, and no one got hurt. (Brett Connolly, Jimmy Hayes, Brandon DeFazio.) [SCOC]
- Marcus Kruger and Johnny Oduya are cool with waiting to re-sign in Chicago because apparently they enjoy winning Cups. [Puck Daddy]
- Not as optimistic about navigating the cap? The Kings. [LA Times]
- Also sweating it? The Rangers. The Ryan O'Reilly contract has Larry Brooks all nervous about the Derek Stepan contract to come. [Post]
- This is before the dicey Nilsson addition, but here is a look at the Oilers roster after free agent additions and trades. [C&B]
- Rumors? They got rumors. Like Semin doesn't want to go to the KHL. [THN] More rumors. [Spector's Hockey]
- The Senators found a graphic artist student who was frozen in 1997 and had him/her do their 25th anniversary logo. [Score]
Just Because
It's summer, so enjoy the awkwardness that is Gary Bettman doing the ice bucket challenge a year ago. Half expected him to file an objection over the ratio of ice to water...
