Islanders prospect mini-camp closes for real today. (Yesterday we inadvertently left a version of that sentence in the opening.) That means things with the Isles are about to get a little quiet. But there were some moves and signings around the league yesterday.
Islanders Reads
- Joshua Ho-Sang is a pretty cool, intelligent and charitable dude. But you knew that. [Isles]
- Stephon Williams and Eamon McAdam, together again. Funny that in theory -- okay, in longshot -- they could one day be a goalie tandem for the Isles. [Newsday]
- A wee bit of text and video on the new Islanders "campus" being developed at Barclays Center. [Pix11]
- We mused about the scarcity of Islanders among the top 200 "fantasy" players because it's summer and why not. [LHH]
- The AHL announced rule changes (e.g. faceoffs, OT 3-on-3, coach's challenge) and adjustments to the playoff qualification since the California teams will be playing fewer games. [Soundin' Off | LA Kings Insider | AHL]
Beyond Prospect Ogling
- Patrick Sharp has finally been traded, and it was to Dallas for a poor defenseman and a poorly disciplined forward. [Second City Hockey | Defending Big D] The Stars have to retain half of Garbutt's salary though.
- The Hawks aren't done yet though because they can't be done: "Chicago currently has 13 forwards, six defensemen and two goalies under contract for next season with a total salary cap hit of $70.4 million." [Second City Hockey]
- Jonathan Toews isn't scared of no selloff. [NHL]
- The Coyotes signed John Scott for some reason. [Puck Daddy]
- The Wings signed Gustav Nyquist for four years. [Winging It In Motown]
- Max Pacioretty suffered a knee injury in training. 12 weeks. [HEOTP]
- Sidney Crosby is "happy to have" Phil Kessel, which is either typical Crosby-speak or cause for you to wonder why there was no ringing endorsement. [NHL]
- Sheldon Souray with an awesome goodbye, thank you and "how did I get here?" [Tribune]
- I actually always ponder this line of thinking: When non-speedsters age, or: Should Caps fans be THAT excited over Justin Williams? [Bourne at theScore]
- Hey, everyone in Philly gets a fresh start under the new coach, even old overpaid Vincent Lecavalier. [NHL]
- Ray Shero is in no rush to replace David Conte and takes pains to say he hasn't been recruiting anyone yet. He just really wanted to get rid of Conte, I guess. [NHL]
