Islanders prospect Michael Dal Colle and the Oshawa Generals are champions of the Ontario Hockey League after defeating the Erie Otters and expected first overall pick Connor McDavid in five games.
Dal Colle, selected fifth overall by the Islanders in the 2014 NHL draft, had two assists in Oshawa's 6-2 win Friday night, helping the Generals win their first J. Ross Robertson Cup since 1997 and 13th in team history. Dal Colle finished with 31 points (8 goals, 23 assists) in 21 playoff games.
Next stop for the Generals is the Memorial Cup, which starts next Friday in Quebec. The Kelowna Rockets, Rimouski Oceanic and Quebec Remparts are the other teams at this year's big junior tournament.
McDavid's next stop is probably Edmonton. He was named MVP of the OHL playoffs after scoring 49 points in 21 games. He only had seven in the series against Oshawa.
Last Spring, Griffin Reinhart, the Islanders fourth overall pick in 2012, captained the Edmonton Oil Kings to a Western Hockey League title and then to a victory in the Memorial Cup.
