The Islanders haven't had a lot to smile about in their first two periods against the Lightning, but Cal Clutterbuck provided some laughs with this one-handed excuse-me goal that tied the game at 2.
After Thomas Hickey dumped the puck into the Tampa Bay zone, it bounced to the stick of defenseman Braydon Coburn. Clutterbuck swooped in, knocked the puck off Coburn's stick and under the pads of goalie Ben Bishop. The attempt seemed to catch everyone by surprise, even the guy doing the attempting.
It was a very appropriate goal for the state where millions of idle, decrepit old people play shuffleboard all night until the break of 6 pm.
It was a rare lucky break for the Islanders who were getting outworked by the Lightning for the majority of the period. Maybe this is the kind of highlight that will get the people of Brooklyn to finally know who Cal Clutterbuck is.
