Islanders All Star Gameday News: We went to a museum. We saw priceless works of art. We ate pancreas.

A real live game (almost) is coming soon.

Good try, Johnny.
Good try, Johnny.

Finally, at long last, the 2015 NHL All Star Game will actually be played today at 5 pm. We'll have everything you need to know coming up later this morning.

Islanders news

  • The Islanders are staying humble and focused. Garth Snow's keyword is "wins." [Staple in Newsday]
  • Word about the Islanders is getting around the NHL. [Newsday]
  • Garik examines the Nick Leddy-Johnny Boychuk pairing and sees a lot to like (and a few questions, too). [Islander Analytics]
  • Stephon Williams takes a cue from the David Leggio playbook, knocking the net off at just the right time. In this case, to help a fallen teammate. [LHH]
  • Sebastian Collberg has his "arm in a sling" and is "week to week." Not good for a guy with a history of shoulder problems. [@fornabaioctp] That took him out of last night's game, which a frustrated Bridgeport lost in OT. [CT Post]
  • Yesterday was the anniversary of one of the defining moments in Islanders history: Mike Bossy's 50-in-50. [The Hockey Writers]
  • Michael Dal Colle's great season continues. [Insight]

Mad Skillz

  • In last night's All Star Skills competition, Team Foligno romped over Team Toews (and John Tavares and Jaroslav Halak) because they had the grit, heart and toughness that a goofball sideshow like this demands. [LHH Zeist-cap]
  • The role of All Star is a natural one for Tavares. [NY Post]
  • Islanders teammates take in the fun. [Islanders]
  • At least there was one Islander on a winning side. [@NHL Twitter]
  • So Tavares had a rough go of some of the events and, in true Tavares fashion, demanded much more of himself:

Other stuff

The NHL used the ASG to announce a bunch of news including:

  • Player tracking technology that could change how the game is followed and televised is here. [Puck Daddy]
  • The World Cup is coming in 2016 with a few interesting Franken-Teams. [LHH]
  • What might those Franken-Teams look like? [NHL.com]
  • Three outdoor games are official for next season: Red Wings vs Avalanche in Coors Field, Blackhawks vs Wild at the University of Minnesota and Canadiens vs Bruins at Gillette Stadium for the Winter Classic. [SB Nation]
  • Pierre LeBrun covered many of the other topics including the salary cap, Vegas and why the outdoor teams are who they are.
  • Never hockey: FrancesaCon, organized by LHH's own Michael Leboff, was a rousing success with the man himself as guest of honor. [Newsday]
