NHL All Star Draft 2015: Ryan Getzlaf has no idea who John Tavares is

Good one, Brian.

John, meet Ryan. Ryan, this is JOHN.

Maybe he was joking. Or maybe he deserves a pass, having played his entire career 3,000 miles from Long Island.

But when Anaheim's Ryan Getzlaf selected John Tavares for Team Toews in tonight's NHL All Star Game Fantasy Draft, he called the Islanders captain "Jonathan," a common mistake made by people who have no idea who John Tavares is.

I'm not even going to get into the whole "two-way forward" thing. I mean, Tavares is certainly defensively aware, but Getzlaf sounded like he was going to take Patrice Bergeron there.

Toews seems to mouth, "Jonathan?" after the announcement. Tavares' reaction is to laugh it off with his buds (seated at the table with him was teammate Jaroslav Halak, who was the final goalie chosen and will also play for Team Toews). Someone definitely says, "John..." although it's unclear if that "John" was preceded or followed by the phrase, "Getz, you dumbass."

When he met Getzlaf and shook his hand, Tavares definitely said something, but had a smile on his face the whole time.

It's all in good fun anyway. These drafts have become highly enjoyable because they have the loose, slightly drunk feel of an old Dean Martin Roast. Sadly, the only thing they're missing is Don Rickles. Maybe this is Getzlaf's audition for the "Mr. Warmth" role.

At the very least, being called "Jonathan Tavares" is better than being called "Dick Poop."
