Kyle Okposo was named the NHL's Third Star of the Week today in recognition of a productive last week for the winger and his team. He led the Islanders to a comeback win by scoring four goals against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday, his first NHL hat trick, then had a goal and an assist in a loss to Montreal the next night. The Islanders also beat the Rangers 3-0 on Tuesday to earn four out of six points against some tough opponents, and Okposo was front and center.
Tell us the story again, Uncle Kyle. Picture it: Uniondale, 2015...
Okposo has 14 goals and 30 assists this season, his seventh in the NHL.
Winnipeg's Dustin Byfuglien and Detroit's Tomas Tatar were the NHL's First and Second Stars of the week. Recently, Byfuglien has been on a tear so destructive, he might need to be put on an FBI Watch List.
Okposo is the third Islander to gain recognition from the league this season. Goalie Jaroslav Halak was named First Star of the Week back in December, and Frans Nielsen a Third Star in October.. Let's make this a regular thing.
