The New York Islanders won the nightcap of their day/evening doubleheader in St. John's, Newfoundland, with the Ottawa Senators to open their preseason schedule.
Josh Bailey and Mikhail Grabovski scored in the second period to erase a 2-0 deficit, and Cal Clutterbuck notched the deciding breakaway conversion in the shootout. Jaroslav Halak and Kevin Poulin split the goaltending duties, with Poulin taking the second half and keeping the Senators off the scoreboard.
The Isles also won the afternoon game, 3-2 in regulation. They now head back to Long Island for more camp and their next preseason game, Wednesday at Nassau Coliseum.
