Retro Game Thread: Islanders Vs Penguins Game 7 1993

Will the underdog Islanders stop a budding Dynasty?

The Islanders are the last team across the four major North American sports to have a true dynasty (Four Consecutive League championships). The Oilers had won 5 Cups in 7 years, but now it looked like a new Dynasty was going to take center stage. With Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr on the same team, along with a deep and talented bench it seemed like a foregone conclusion the Pens were going to win the Cup in 93.

This was especially true as the Islanders came out of a brutal matchup with the Capitals in the quarter finals. The Islanders were now without superstar center and leading scorer Pierre Turgeon, who was taken out in one of the cheapest shots in league history by Dale Hunter. Leading up to game one against the Penguins the Islanders were not given a chance to even win a single game against the high powered Pens.

The Islanders then squeaked out a game one win against the Pens 3-2.  Game two and three went to the Pens, 3-1 and 3-0 respectively. The Islanders got right back in it though, getting 6 shots of a 40 shot onslaught by Tom Barrasso for a 6-5 win. With a 6-3 win in Game Five the Pens pushed the Islanders to the brink, forcing the Isles to win two straight to win the series. Fort Neverlose came through for the islanders though, as the Isles won game six 7-5 getting 6 goals on 28 shots.

Flighty and Foul: PensBurgh

The Islanders have pushed the Penguins to the limit. Infamously before the game Ray Ferraro said "If we lose game seven, it's no different then if we'd gone out in four"

Special Note: The Audio Quality is really bad, and I'm sorry about that but this was the only version I could find. Plus it's the SportsChannel Broadcast. I recommend turning down the volume before loading.
