As the trade deadline neared its final hours, with vocal Islanders fans comically jumping off ledges because their deadline for DO SOMETHING was apparently 10 a.m., various media weighed in on what was happening with Thomas Vanek.
In a word, no one really knows, and the lack of movement on two other key wingers -- Matt Moulson and Mike Cammalleri -- plus the on-again, off-again Ryan Kesler sweepstakes, seemed to keep things held up and people guessing.
Ducks never got in on Vanek seriously, confirmed.

(Stephens is the Ducks beatwriter for the OC Register.)
But also...
Appears Penguins are waiting on Kesler but will go for Vanek if a deal with VAN can't be worked out and TV is still available.

And perhaps...
With Moulson close to being moved, hearing same thing on Vanek. Sounds like deal is very close there too.
