Ten Game Islanders Rankings, Episode II - Some Like it Warm

Much like in the Star Wars Universe, there are things that happened that make us want to think there was no Episode I (Subtitled "The Crappy PK"). But then, things turned around just a little bit, and we have some sort of award winner on our hands. And now, off to the chunks...

For this episode, we'll revisit the first 10 games for each team, compare their second 10 games, then look at games 1 - 20 as a whole. These stats don't include anything past game 20 for any team.

In the first act, we'll take a look at 5v5 and how the Islanders stacked up against the rest of the NHL.

In the first 10 games, the Isles were near the top of the league. Games 11-20 saw a mild regression, but if they had put up this same SF/60 in the first 10 games, they would have been in 7th. For the first 20 games, the Isles find themselves at the top of a big group trying to chase down Chicago and Minnesota.

Goal production at 5v5 dropped slightly in games 11-20, but for the whole year, the Isles find themselves second only to the Lightning. How sustainable is this, though?

During the second chunk of games, shooting percentage fell back towards the middle of the pack, but is still in the top 5 for the NHL.

As much as we've regressed a little on the offensive side of things, we managed not to regress as much as other teams on the defensive side. Even though we allowed about .25 shots more per 60, we jumped up to 5th for games 11-20, and we sit in 8th after 20 games.

Where we were not so hot in games 1 - 10, we actually got much better in games 11-20, but still aren't top 10 in the league. Chopping 3/4 of a goal per 60 off our total, though, managed to move us out of the bottom 10 for games 1-20.
