Finally, the New York Islanders have refreshing depth throughout the organization. Let's take a look:

  • Bridgeport had a big weekend but lost Sunday to a nagging division rival in Springfield. Still, there was a line brawl. [LHH roundup with links/videos | AHL boxscore | Soundin' Off | Post | BST]
  • In Newsday, Staple spoke with Bridgeport coach Brent Thompson on the defense and Kevin Poulin ("much more controlled this year"), as well as Matt Martin on fighting and Denis Potvin on the Coliseum. [Newsday]
  • Michael Dal Colle's Oshawa team is humming along in the OHL. [Durham]
  • Unfortunately, the other rung of the organiational ladder isn't doing so hot. ECHL Stockton lost again, falling to 4-10 on the season. Former Isles pick Jason Gregoire scored.
  • Speaking of fights: Retro-style, Wendel Clark vs. Marty McSorley, their second of the night. In his brief tenure with the Isles, Clark was like the anti-Muller:

Beyond the Orange Sphere of Influence
  • Say, whatever happened to the once-great Quebec goalie factory? And don't say they all adopted Martin Brodeur's diet. [THN]
  • Not a surprise given recent events, but somber nonetheless: Gordie Howe's health is headed the wrong way. [SB Nation]
  • Ice Hockey in Harlem looks for a temporary rink. [Color of Hockey]
  • Coo: Pensacola of the lowly SPHL sign an active duty Air Force lieutenant, so naturally he scores in his first game. [Puck Daddy]
  • The Sharks had a rookie goalie Troy Grosenick debut with 45 saves against Carolina for the win. [Fear the Fin] Awesome reaction from his father. And the family.
  • Meanwhile, the Stars made Kari Lehtonen make 41 saves...but there were 47 shots in the loss to the Hawks. [NHL]
