New York Islanders Camp: Kyle Okposo Out, More Line Shuffling

Jack Capuano and staff are messing with you.

Hoping this doesn't become a problem.

Another day at New York Islanders camp brings another few wrinkles in the line combos and one malady of note.

Kyle Okposo is out, listed as day-to-day, with an eye injury, presumably a complication from the unpenalized high stick he received at the hands, er blade, of Jon Merrill (GIF of the reckless stick at IPB here).

That left an opening on wing today which was filled by Anders Lee, who was skating with the AHL group on Tuesday.

Lee wasn't the only one to switch from the AHL to the NHL group today though. Chris Bruton also returned to the fray, giving Ryan Strome "the Sundstrom" assignment of skating with two heavies, Bruton and Eric Boulton. Johan Sundstrom, meanwhile, moved to the AHL group to skate with John Persson (who was with Wetmore and Bruton yesterday) and Kirill Kabanov (who was with Quine and Halmo).

The Group A (NHL+ at the Coliseum) lines, as tweeted by the Isles:

Moulson - Tavares - Bailey
Grabner - Nielsen - Lee
Martin - Cizikas - McDonald
Nelson - Regin - Bouchard
Strome - Bruton - Boulton

The Group 2 (AHL+ at Iceworks) lines:

Persson - Sundstrom - Kabanov
Wetmore - Miller - Diamond
Halmo - Quine - Clark
Johnson - Keenan - Gallant

Meanwhile, extras (AHL campers) looked on at Group 2. The movement among center and wing of Brock Nelson, Ryan Strome and Sundstrom, even Alan Quine and Jason Clark, typifies a dynamic here: The Islanders draft a lot of centers who can end up at wing. Part of the fun is figuring out who fits best where; trolling tea-leaf-reading Islanders fans trying to project the lineup is just a bonus we on-lookers get to enjoy.

Finally, per Arthur Staple, the Isles were also on the ice 45 minutes early for special teams work. (Here's a snapshot of the penalty killing unit with Brent Thompson.) Which, if the preseason game performances so far mean anything, is an area that needs addressing.
