Injury Updates: Michael Grabner has shoulder injury, Jesse Joensuu skating with team

One day after demoting David Ullstrom to Bridgeport, the Islanders have further news on the wing.

After David Ullstrom's demotion (though it's a "loan" in CBA-ese) to Bridgeport yesterday, there was more news on the left wing coming out of New York Islanders practice this morning.

First, see if you can pick out the return of an old face from these practice lines:

Moulson-Tavares-Boyes
Bailey-Nielsen-Okposo
Joensuu-Reasoner-Aucoin
Martin-Cizikas-Boulton

No, not perma-scratch Keith Aucoin. Rather, Jesse Joensuu was out there for his first official practice with the team in 2013. He's been out since the lockout ended, when he showed up to camp with a pre-existing injury from his play in Europe while the NHL shut itself down.

Then at the end of January, the Isles announced hernia surgery for Joensuu that would put him out for 5-7 weeks. That was roughly six weeks ago, so here we are.

UPDATE: After practice, the Isles pass this on:

Capuano: You can expect to see him (Joensuu) soon. Conditioning will come. TBD on whether he'll travel - depends on post-practice eval.

Arthur Staple of Newsday tweets that Colin McDonald is taking a "maintenance day." But the bigger and more immediate concern: Where's Michael Grabner in the above practice lines?

Uh oh:

Ouch.

As noted yesterday with Ullström's demotion, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers play tonight while the Isles don't play until Thursday in Tampa Bay. So expect more decisions and news, if any, tomorrow.

Speaking of such decisions, Matt Carkner (still on IR) was at practice paired with Joe Finley. The Ullström move opens up a spot on the 23-man roster for someone.
