    • The first game of the year was 5/6ths old when we saw our first scary injury. Montreal's George Parros hit the ice face first while trying to land a punch on the Leafs' Colton Orr.     • Phil Kessel will remain a Maple Leaf for the next eight seasons, signing a $64 million contract extension yesterday. Very good goal scorer, very bad interview. The Leafs paid handsomely for one of those things. [TSN]
    • Captain Crunches: The Sabres will split the "C" this year between pending UFA's Thomas Vanek and Steve Ott. Fun fact: the Devils named Zach Parise captain the year before he was a UFA.
