Islanders Bits: AHL All Stars, NHL action, RFA Updates and NYR Follies

Some reading material for the Islanders' off day. In this edition: Benn signs, Subban sits, the Jets shoot down Crosby and the Rangers hate women.

The Bruins proved to be too much for the Islanders last night. But they can lick their wounds (or just sleep in) today as they prepare to face the Jets in Winnipeg on Sunday.

Until then, here are some links for your reading pleasure on an Islanders-free Saturday.

ISLANDERS LINKS

Admirals connect for two quick goals, beat Sound Tigers - Connecticut Post

The third period was unkind to the Islanders' AHL affiliate, too. The rematch is tonight at Norfolk.

AHL All Star Starting Line-ups Announced

Congrats to Sound Tigers Matt Donovan and Nino Niederreiter who were named starters for the Eastern Conference in the AHL All Star Classic this coming Monday. No word yet on whether Nino's agent requested a trade to the Western Conference All Star Team.

The AHL All Star Classic from Providence, R.I. will be broadcast on MSG Network this coming Monday. The skill competition, played on Sunday, will be shown the next day before the game.

Head Chief (Brenden Kichton)

The (still unsigned) Spokane defenseman is having a fine junior season.

Sloth And Confusion In Toronto - Pension Plan Puppets

PPP breaks down Mark Streit's goal against Toronto on Thursday. Spoiler: some of the Leafs missed their assignments.

AROUND THE NHL

Instant Recap: Winnipeg Jets down the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-2 - Arctic Ice Hockey

The Jets negated two goals by Sidney Crosby to seal a victory over the Penguins.

Recap: Devils 3, Caps 2 (OT) - Japers' Rink

The winless Caps earned their first point of the season in an OT loss to the Devils. Kovalchuk with the winner.

Getting home-schooled | ducks, canucks, goals - Sports - The Orange County Register

I know it's early but I want the Ducks and Canucks to meet in the playoffs because it seems anything could happen in a short series between these two. After losing 7-3 in their home opener to the Ducks, the Canucks returned the favor by dismantling Anaheim 5-0 at the Pond's first game of the season.

RFA CORRAL

Jamie Benn, Stars agree to five-year deal - SBNation.com

This is old news by now but still worth noting. Benn probably returns to the Stars lineup early next week.

Canadiens GM Bergevin meets with Subban's camp

Meanwhile, Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban met with management to discuss a new deal but nothing is immanent. The Habs are holding firm to some pretty stringent parameters and P.K. disagrees. If you were missing the exciting contract negotiations, money squabbling and term discussions of the lockout, then you're in luck.

OUTRAGE!

Girl's Guide To Watching the Rangers sparks outrage, ridicule before it's pulled | Puck Daddy - Yahoo! Sports

In case you missed it yesterday because you were, like, paying attention to work and stuff, the Rangers posted a handy "Girls Guide to Watching the Rangers" on their official blog. The fan-submitted post was even worse than the title suggests. Twitter was aflame for an hour or so and Puck Daddy breaks down the silliness. About two seconds after going live, there were approximately 157 parodies of the post so one more probably isn't necessary.

FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER

Here's Steve Thomas, his mullet and a pair of wooden clogs advertising the NHL on FOX. Enjoy your Saturday.
