In advance of tonight's home game against the Albany Devils, and with key center Brock Nelson still hurting with puck-to-mouth disease (and Max MacKay still hurt too), the Bridgeport Sound Tigers have announced a trio of forwards signed to professional tryout (PTO) contracts.
You are now invited to keep the three "C's" -- Chad Costello, Jack Combs and Scott Campbell -- straight.
All hail from the ECHL, here to make AHL pitches over the holidays. Costello and Combs come from the same place, the ECHL's Colorado Eagles, where Jon Landry was a teammate and where they are 1-2 atop the ECHL scoring leaderboard. Both have some AHL experience.
Campbell, meanwhile, has AHL experience with Texas, Rochester and Houston but has been playing with the Las Vegas Wranglers this season. He's expected to play tonight.
Stats via HockeyDB
- Campbell: 6'2", 210, shoots left, age 26
- Combs: 5'11', 193, shoots left, age 24
- Costello: 5'9", 170, shoots right, age 26
The Sound Tigers will have various visuals on their uniforms and on the home ice for the rest of the season to remember the victims in the Sandy Hook massacre. [Update: Here's a photo of how the helmet stickers and jersey patches look.]
The Devils bring AHL Player of the Week (and recent NHLer) Bobby Butler with them. Not Matt Corrente, however, as he is done for the season.
At 9-8-0-6, the Devils are just three points behind the Sound Tigers with three games in hand. This is the teams' second meeting, with the Devils taking the last one earlier this month in Albany, 3-1.
Go PTOs.
