It would appear that Mark Streit and John Tavares have played together on the powerplay before.
In highlights from their 5-3 (ENG) victory with Bern over Ambri Piotta in the Swiss league, they connect for one of their patented combination plays where Tavares redirects Streit's shot-pass in the mid slot. A nice bit of work there. But then that's what he do.
Other highlights from the full roundup, which you can watch here:
- Old teammate and ex-Islander Richard Park scoring a rebound collection goal for the opposition.
- The announcers cringing -- discernible in any language -- over the Ambri Piotta goaltender's botching of the fourth goal (which tied it at 2-2), thanks to a ding-dong fat rebound followed by a snow angel that would make Mike Mottau blush.
- John Tavares icing the game with a slick, cruelly deliberate empty net goal shot from deep in his own zone. (Tavares also had an assist in the game, working the puck to the goal from up high.)
Again, you can watch highlights here. (Isn't it fun to give other leagues attention while the NHL shoots itself in the gut?) You can read (or translate) recaps of the game here and here.
It was an important win for Bern, with their investment in NHL imports having them still in seventh place (17 points) -- though now, after the victory, within two points of second in a crowded pack of teams. They next play Davos (lockout home of choice for Rick Nash and Joe Thornton), who are in 10th place with just 11 points.
