Among the many New York Islanders playing in Europe thanks to the lockout, the two most important are playing on the same team. So we'll start with them:
John Tavares, Mark Streit - SC Bern (Switzerland)
Bern is in sixth place, still ten points behind NLA-leading Servette but only two points behind second-place Zurich as the Swiss league enters round 14 action. Bern plays Biel Friday.
Tavares and Streit each scored in Bern's recent 6-3 win over Davos, which features Rick Nash (who also scored). Streit has three goals, four assists in nine games. Tavares likewise has 3-4-7, but in seven games. So: bust.
Here are some highlights with both players picking up assists. And here's Tavares scoring a shootout winner.
The headshots for the players are pretty awesome, by the way.
Andrew MacDonald, Dustin Kohn - Karlovy Vary (Czech Republic)
A check of Karlovy Vary's "statistiky" (I love some Czech words) has Andrew MacDonald with two assists and a minus-two after two games. Kohn, his old Bridgeport partner, has a goal and an assist in 11 games.
KV is 12th in the 14-team Czech Extraliga. Historic power Sparta Prague is in last, which is funny only to me.
Michael Grabner - Villacher SV (Austria)
Grabner has two goals and an assist in two games thus far for his hometown team.
Lubomir Visnovsky - Slovan Bratislava (KHL)
Bratislava is doing alright in the KHL, currently fifth in the West conference. Miroslav Satan leads the team in scoring with 6-6-12 in 14 games, while Visnovsky has appeared in six games and contributed two goals and an assist.
Frans Nielsen - Lukko (Finland SM Liiga)
The wielder of the Danish Backhand of Judgment has seven assists in seven games for his brother's (the goalie, Simon) team, and he's also plus-5 because that's what he do. Lukko is in last place though. Fellow locked-out Dane Mikkel Boedker also has seven points, on six goals.
Jesse Joensuu - Ässät (Finland SM Liiga)
The Finn Named Jesse's team is in fourth place, and Joensuu is second on the team in scoring with seven goals, five assists in just 11 games. In flabuse form, he also leads the team with 41 PIM.
Rick DiPietro - SC Riessersee (Germany 2)
As has been discussed around here, the team DiPietro joined was in last place of Germany's second tier. He's still just appeared in the one game.
Bonus: Rhett Rakhshani - HV71 (Sweden)
Rakhshani isn't locked out -- he's one of the RFA Isles who is interning in Europe. But it's noteworthy that he has four goals, six assists in just five games of the European tournament for HV71. He has 10 points in 12 games of the SEL regular season.
As always, when you see interesting clips or international stories about Islanders abroad, do share.
